Testimonies are necessary, they can help us overcome our marriage struggles.

Revelation 12:11 NIV
They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.

Marriage is wonderful and sharing your testimonies freely because you want to help others should not be done without boundaries. It is important that you also maintain a high degree of privacy between you and your husband. You don’t have to gut open your entire marriage for the world to examine.

Whilst there will be times that you need to share testimonies to help someone else, never share anything that you haven’t agreed with your husband. Also ask the Holy Spirit what you should share. Be very careful about being too vulnerable with just anyone and everyone. Not everyone is committed to you in friendship and certainly not to your marriage. Often, people who want to hear a testimony first before they believe God’s Word should be obeyed, are just looking to satisfy their hunger for gossip, “kingdom” style.

Proverbs 26:22 NIV
The words of a gossip are like choice morsels; they go down to the inmost parts.

God’s Word is supreme over our testimonies. We must obey His commands because we love Him regardless of whether there is a testimony of someone overcoming to test if it “worked”
for them first.

John 14:21 NIV
Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Testimonies from someone else’s marriage, should never be a pre-requisite for our obedience. Rather our obedience will produce our own testimonies.

The real testimony should be of Christ in you marriage and it should be evident from the fruit it bears. Sometimes you don’t even have to open your mouth to testify of His transforming power in your marriage.

Matthew 12:33 NIV
“Make a tree good and its fruit will be good, or make a tree bad and its fruit will be bad, for a tree is recognized by its fruit.

Don’t wait for the testimonies of gossip before you align your marriage with God’s Word.
