I am excited to have written this post with my husband. He is sold out to Jesus too and we share a passion for marriages centered around Him! When we write together will use identity “Loved Wife, Respected Husband” Here is our first post together.
1. Being strong is not wrong.
Proverbs 31:17 NIV
She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.
Proverbs 31:25 NIV
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.
2. Not being submitted to your husband is wrong. The Bible is very clear;
Ephesians 5:22-24 NIV
Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
Notice it says “wives, submit yourselves” Submission must be done willingly and confidently without fear by us as wives, no husband should force us.
Notice it also says, “own husband”, there is no need to submit to any one else’s husband.
A dictionary defines submit as:
To yield or surrender (oneself) to the will or authority of another.
Submission does not mean weak or doormat. It’s not a burden, it’s actually a position of power and of blessing to both husband and wife and your entire household.
Let’s use the area of decision-making as one example, there are others.
In this area it means that your husband has the final decision-making power over you and your household and you have to live with that decision whether you like it or not. However, a husband after God’s heart won’t make any major decisions without taking your input, opinions and concerns as a wife into account. He knows God has created you to be his helper and you are one.
Proverbs 31:11 NIV
Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.
He will know that if he makes the wrong decisions, the whole family may suffer as a result of the consequences and no loving husband would want that.
So be available to your husband when he needs to discuss major decisions with you, and be interested in the responsibilities he carries as head of household. You input is invaluable. You may even persuade him to change or better the decision.
So go out there and conquer the world as a woman, but when you come home, be submitted to your own husband.
Submission supersedes agreement between husband and wife if agreement can’t be reached. However a wise husband will seek agreement and never force decisions on his wife where she is unhappy.
When submission works very well, you will begin to trust your husband to just run with certain decisions as you know he will make them wisely. Some decisions he may even delegate to you.
If your husband is not a believer, you still have to submit to him, as long as he doesn’t ask you to do something which contravenes the Bible.
1 Peter 3:1 NIV
Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives,
The Holy Spirit is out helper, let him lead you.
God bless you,
