Mistreatment of a wife by her husband “bounces” his prayers right back from the “ceiling” of Heaven

Mistreatment of a wife by her husband “bounces” his prayers right back from the “ceiling” of Heaven

Our Heavenly Father places enormous responsibility on our husbands to treat us well and with respect.

In 1 Peter 3:7, the Bible warns that men who mistreat their wives might as well not pray because their prayers will not be answered. It is as if it “bounces” right back to earth from the “ceiling” of heaven. The domino effect of their disobedience will have serious and far reaching negative consequences for their lives, our lives, the lives of our children and families.

1 Peter 3:7 NIV
Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.

The word ” weaker” does not signify that we are emotionally, intellectually or spiritually weaker, absolutely not, we are co-heirs to this precious life God has given us. It means physically weaker.

This gives the beautiful picture of a stronger husband, physically protecting his wife with his arms wrapped around her, doing her only good and no harm. It’s a similar image of our Heavenly Father “covering each one of us with his feathers and protecting us under His wings (Psalm 91:4 NIV). We are that precious in His eyes.

There should be no fear of mistreatment or disrespect at the hands of our husbands, we should feel safe and free in our marriages, therefore their prayers will be “hindered” unless they:
treat us fairly;
treat us respectfully;
treat us with due consideration for and the protection of our physical, emotional, mental, financial and spiritual well being.

As wives and helpers to our husbands, it is important that we hold our husbands accountable in this area as we are one with them and we will suffer the consequences of their disobedience alongside them. If they are struggling in this area, we mustn’t turn a blind eye hoping it will just go away. We must lovingly bring it to their attention, as soon as we notice any warning signs. Then let’s help them to confront it immediately by seeking the right kind of godly counsel to help them overcome it. They can’t afford to have their prayers go unanswered, neither can we.
